How many players do you need for President?

Three to six in Le Président, and bots count as players. Around a kitchen table, some groups stretch it to seven or more with a second deck. Online, Le Président keeps to one deck and six seats, so everyone still gets a proper hand.

Can you play President with 2 people?

Not one on one, but two friends can absolutely play together: a bot takes the third seat. In the game, tap “Create a room”, send the invitation link to your friend, then tap “+ Add a bot” in the lobby and start. If a third friend turns up before you start, they can simply join; the host can remove the bot if you’d rather play without it.

The bot plays a real hand. It takes a role, trades cards and scores points like anyone else. It also plays in one simple, predictable way, so read how the bots play before your friend does.

Can you play President with 3 people?

Yes, and it’s a lively format. The deck splits into three big hands, so pairs and three of a kind turn up all the time, and four of a kind, which can start a revolution, is far more likely than at six.

With three, the roles are President, Neutral and Asshole. Only the President and the Asshole swap cards between rounds, two each way; the Neutral keeps their hand. Three is also what you get with two friends and a bot, or with you and two bots.

How many cards does each player get?

The whole deck is dealt, so it depends on the table: 13 cards each with four players. With three, five or six, 52 doesn’t split evenly and some players get one extra card.

In the first round, the extra cards follow seat order. After that, they go to the last round’s Asshole first, then up the standings. Exchanges are card for card, so nobody’s hand size changes. More in dealing the cards.

How many decks do you need?

One standard 52-card deck, jokers left in the box. Le Président never adds a second deck: every card from 3 up to 2 is dealt once, and suits don’t matter. The card order is all you need to know before your first trick.

Which roles are in play with 3, 4, 5 or 6 players?

With four or more players, the Vice-asshole gives their best card to the Vice-president, who returns one of their choice, on top of the two-card swap between the Asshole and the President. Neutrals sit out the exchanges. Points depend on your role: see points and the end of the game.

Can you play President alone against the computer?

Yes. Create a table, add two to five bots with “+ Add a bot”, and start: you’re playing in seconds. Gaston, Berthe, Marcel, Odette and Lucien take their seats like anyone else, and friends can still join before you start, as long as a seat is free.

There’s one kind of bot, with no difficulty levels: it plays its weakest legal cards and gives back its weakest cards in exchanges. That makes it good practice for learning the card order and for working out when to spend your 2s. You still need a connection, since the server deals and checks every move.
